Why We Garden

Octagon House trellis
A Jackmanii clematis covered this archway at the Octagon House Museum, a historical museum and garden in Hudson, Wis.
Sea of hydrangea bloom
A sea of hydrangea blooms surround the Octago House garden.
Twist and Shout Hydrangea
This ‘Twist and Shout’ hydrangea gathered lots of comments and questions at one garden.

Texure
The gardeners combined texture and color beautifully.
Owl and succulent bowl
Who doesn’t love a bit of whimsey? This stone owl appears to be watching the succulent display next to him.
Zinnia opening
Even before it opens, this zinnia adds beauty to the garden.

Willow ball
Artist Heidi Doering demonstrated willow art in one garden. Here’s an example of her work.
Daisies

Daisies gardens in HudsonThe garden tour season has officially started, and today I took a trip over the border to Hudson, Wis., for what is billed as an Artful Garden Tour. The wonderful part about this tour was that whether the gardens featured artists or musicians, the six gardens themselves were carefully crafted works of art. The tour is sponsored by the Hudson Women’s Club and is held most years. Click on any image for a larger view.
