A few weeks ago, I was coming into the house through the garage when I noticed on the garage floor a few seeds from the Cherokee Trail of Tears beans I planted last summer. I saved some seeds to plant this summer and apparently a few fell on the garage floor. I picked them up and rather impulsively stuffed them into the soil in a couple of otherwise empty pots on my kitchen windowsill just to see if they would germinate.
Long story short, I now have bean flowers. I’m surprised they’ve made it this far, because there is not much soil in either of the two pots the bean seeds were planted in. I keep expecting the plants to flop over and die, but it hasn’t happened yet. (If you look closely at the photo, you’ll see some yellowing on the leaves, though.) I’ll keep you posted on my crop.
