The September/October issue of Northern Gardener is on the newsstands now. The cover story, by St. Paul garden writer Susan Davis Price, talks about the history of community gardening in Minnesota. There are hundreds of community gardens around the state, ranging from an urban oasis such as the gardens near Mears Park in St. Paul, which is maintained largely by volunteers, to vegetable gardens maintianed by individuals all around Minnesota. (The story includes a photo of one of the cool scarecrows at the Greenvale Park Community Garden.) Other stories focus on how to design an enclosed garden, ways to stretch fall color, and how to use “eco-palettes” in your garden.
